ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have officially been assigned a pair of players via the league's waiver system.
Denver was assigned cornerback Essang Bassey off waivers from the Chargers and punter Corliss Waitman off waivers from the Steelers, the team announced Monday. The moves became official following the conclusion of the 2021 season.
Bassey, who finished his second season in the league in 2021, has appeared in 14 career games, including 13 games for the Broncos. He has posted an interception, two passes defensed and 24 combined tackles in his appearances. Bassey made the Broncos' 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent in 2020 before suffering a season-ending injury late in the year. He was claimed off waivers by the Chargers last year, and he appeared in one game for Los Angeles. Denver then claimed Bassey again following the season.
Waitman appeared in two games for the Steelers in 2021 after being undrafted following his career at South Alabama. He averaged 52.1 yards on seven punts last season with Pittsburgh, and he also spent time on the Patriots' practice squad.
Both players have been officially added to the team's 90-man roster.
