ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have signed a veteran defender to their roster.
The Broncos signed safety Sam Franklin Jr., the team announced Friday.
A former undrafted free agent, Franklin appeared in 74 career games for the Carolina Panthers from 2020-24. He has recorded 105 career tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, a sack, an interception, a pick six, a forced fumble and five passes defensed. The Temple University product has started nine career games.
In 2024, Franklin played a career-high 84 percent of the special teams snaps in the 10 games in which he appeared. He also played more than 250 special teams snaps in each season from 2021-2023. Franklin's most extensive defensive action came in 2023 when he played 27 percent of Carolina's defensive snaps.
Franklin is the latest defender to join the Broncos in free agency, as Denver also signed linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga.
