ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A month after his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the late Pat Bowlen has received another honor.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis announced Friday that Bowlen had been named a recipient of the 2019 Colorado Governor's Citizenship Medal.
Bowlen received the medal in the "Colorado Mountain Leader" category. Polis awarded the medal in memoriam for Bowlen's "innovative impact on the state of Colorado while providing a role model for the nation."
The Colorado Governor's Citizenship Medal was created by an executive order in 2015 and is "one of the highest honors bestowed upon citizens and organizations of Colorado for their significant contributions to communities across the state."
The medal will officially be awarded on Oct. 12.
"The Governor's Citizenship Medal was created to recognize Colorado's remarkable leaders for their impact on their communities," said Polis. "Our state has some amazing and courageous leaders and it's important for us to celebrate their efforts and inspire new generations to do the same."
