The Lead

The 2024 preseason has come to a close, and several rookies had an opportunity to make an early impact ahead of the regular season.

Pro Football Focus has evaluated the performances of each newcomer and compiled a Preseason All-Rookie Team, and two Broncos landed on the roster.

First-round pick Bo Nix earned the quarterback spot after putting together two strong preseason performances in Denver's wins over the Colts and the Packers. Nix completed 23-of-30 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns and was named the Broncos' starter for the 2024 season.

"The past few weeks, I've felt really comfortable getting to [play against] a different defense," Nix said on Aug. 21. "Playing these preseason games has really helped me a lot, and I think that's really helped in the growth process. I feel really comfortable where I'm at now."

Outside linebacker Jonah Elliss earned an edge selection after strong preseason performances during which he showcased his potential to make key defensive plays.

The third-round draft pick helped force an interception in Denver's preseason opener against the Colts, and he then recorded a strip-sack and fumble recovery in Denver's preseason win over the Packers.

Elliss said that his strength has allowed him to get off to a quick start and looks forward to seeing where this takes him during the 2024 season.

"I feel like my speed to power is what catches people off guard," Elliss said after Denver's win over the Packers. "They think I'm just a speed rusher. It's been pretty fun getting going like this."
