Broncos, Briefly: Tuesday, April 23, 2019

"I've coached a lot of good young guys and I've had a lot of guys go on and play at the next level," said Dickey, now the offensive line coach at Oklahoma State. "But I tell you what: I don't think any of them have played with that type of edge that Dalton plays with. He just wants to destroy you every single play. They've all been competitive and they have an edge or they wouldn't be playing. But he brought it to another level."

My thought on this: Elway has already established a plan that is clearly more about now than it is the future. The Broncos have a 60 year old head coach in Vic Fangio and 34-year-old quarterback in Flacco. You don't worry about tomorrow when you have a 60-year-old coach and 34-year-old quarterback. You worry about today.

The trade for future Hall of Famer John Elway will always be the franchise's most impactful deal, but it was completed several days after the 1983 draft had finished.

There have been at least five first-round draft-day trades in each of the past three years; in 2018 there were seven. As NFL decision-makers evolve and realize that trades can be mutually beneficial and not everyone has to lose, we've only gotten more fireworks in the first round. Get ready, Nashville.

Byron Murphy, Washington

At 6-foot and 190 pounds, has good size to play physical in coverage. … Third-year sophomore played 20 games for Huskies and had seven interceptions among his 27 pass break-ups. … Limited to six games as freshman (foot injury). … Turned 21 in January. … Second-team All-American as sophomore. … Ran the 40 in 4.55 seconds at the combine. … "Byron's a great player," teammate Taylor Rapp said. "He's one of the toughest, most competitive football players I've seen and one of the (best) lockdown cornerbacks I've seen."
