WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Broncos are embracing a change of scenery.
After earning their first win of the 2024 season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team hit the road and traveled to the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia for the week to train ahead of a Week 4 matchup with New York.
And while the trip may have been planned with the intention of limiting travel and allowing the team to stay in the Eastern Time Zone, the Broncos have already seen a positive impact that extends far beyond those logistics.
"We're growing a bond here," cormerback Pat Surtain II said Wednesday. "You could tell the level of chemistry is building and building each and every day while we're in this place."
While the team spends countless hours together on a weekly basis, attending daily practices and meetings with one another, several players have noted that there is nothing quite like spending a week on the road as a unit with no other distractions.
Kicker Wil Lutz, who earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday, said that trips like these highlight his favorite part of the sport: spending time with his teammates.
"The point of these trips is to get with the guys and hang around them," Lutz said. "… There's so much to do here. It's been great and I think it's good for the team as a whole."
Quarterback Bo Nix also sees the value in the time spent away with the team, and he said that is embracing the opportunity to do things with his teammates in West Virginia that he may not have the opportunity to do back at home.
"[We've] got a little change of scenery," he said. "… It's a fun team trip. We're going to be around each other all week, so it'll be good for us."
For Nix, this is true in more ways than one. The rookie noted that while teams can sometimes "settle a little bit" and "become complacent" after a win, his few days in West Virginia with the team have already proven that Denver's mindset is quite the opposite.
"We're treating it about the same [as previous weeks]," Nix said of Denver's mentality after a win. "We've got a lot that we want to correct and review and get better at. I think we've got good energy out there on the field. … We handled it well today on just moving forward, going to the next practice, going to the next game. We've got a new opponent, and that's what we're worried about."
And while Nix said it will be important to "keep a routine as much as possible" as the Broncos prepare for Week 4, he and his teammates plan to enjoy each other's company as much as possible as they forge a bond that could help the team find more success this season.
"When you're able to kind of get the locker room tighter and get this team tighter, I think you've got to take every opportunity to do that," Lutz said. "And what a better place to do that?"
