ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper has been nominated for a league-wide honor.
Cooper was named as the Broncos' nominee for the 2024 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, the NFL announced Monday. One player from each team is nominated for the award, and a panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community will select eight finalists to be listed on the Pro Bowl ballot under the NFL Sportsmanship Award category.
"Sportsmanship is at the very the core of the game, the foundation of our values that are shared across all levels of the sport," said Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations in a press release. "These Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominees demonstrate to the world how the game is played with respect and integrity at the highest level of competition."
Created in 2014, the award is presented annually to a player who, according to the NFL, "best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents and integrity in competition."
The winner of the award will be determined by a vote of current NFL players and will be announced as part of NFL Honors. The honoree will receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.
A 2021 seventh-round pick, Cooper has been a key contributor for the Broncos' defense and recently signed a contract extension to remain with the team.
