ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — After an impressive rookie campaign, quarterback Bo Nix has been named as one of five finalists for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The 12th-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Nix led all rookies in completions, passing yards, touchdown passes and total touchdowns during the regular season. The Oregon product also broke several NFL rookie and franchise records as he led the Broncos to the team's first playoff berth in nearly a decade.
Nix completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,775 yards and a 93.3 passer rating during the regular season, and his 29 touchdown passes were the second-most by a rookie in NFL history, trailing only Justin Herbert's 31 touchdown passes in 2020.
Nix became the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to post multiple games with at least 300 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and a passer rating of at least 140. He also holds the rookie record for the most games with 200 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and no interceptions.
For his exceptional play this season, Nix earned three NFL Rookie of the Week honors and was also named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week twice.
After a record-setting rookie campaign, DenverBroncos.com is taking a look back at some of the top moments from Nix's first season in Denver.
5. First career win vs. Tampa
In Denver's second road game of the season, Nix and the Broncos' offense got off to a quick start and never looked back. Nix was 4-of-4 for 70 yards and a touchdown run on Denver's opening possession, and he completed 18-of-23 passes for 169 yards and a 97.3 quarterback rating in the first half.
The Broncos took an early lead and led wire-to-wire, and the victory kicked off a three-game win streak that altered the momentum of the season. The team went on to beat the Jets on the road in Week 4 and then returned home for a victory over the Raiders in Week 5 to reach 3-2 after an 0-2 start.
4. 93-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims Jr. on "Monday Night Football"
In a back-and-forth battle with the Cleveland Browns on "Monday Night Football," Denver earned a hard-fought victory that featured many highlight-worthy plays.
One of the biggest came in the third quarter, when Nix dropped back into his own end zone and split two defenders with a perfectly placed pass to wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. over the middle of the field. Mims made an impressive catch and raced all the way to the end zone. The 93-yard connection extended Denver's lead in the third quarter, and the team went on to win 41-32 to reach 8-5 before a Week 14 bye.
3. Two touchdown passes to Mims vs. Bengals
The Broncos found themselves in another back-and-forth battle in Week 17 when the team traveled to Cincinnati to take on Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
Nix put together an impressive performance, completing 24-of-31 passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns and a 114.9 passer rating. Two of Nix's biggest plays came at critical moments in the fourth quarter with the game on the line.
With just under nine minutes remaining, Denver trailed the Bengals by seven when Nix launched a 51-yard pass to Mims in the end zone. According to Next Gen Stats, the pass traveled 67 yards in the air, which made it the longest completion by air distance this season and the second longest since 2016. The score allowed Denver to tie the game at 17.
The Broncos once again faced a seven-point deficit late in the fourth quarter, and Nix led Denver's offense down the field to set up a scoring opportunity. Facing a fourth down with just 14 seconds remaining, Nix escaped pressure and once again launched the ball to the end zone. Mims jumped up between two defenders and made an impressive grab for a score that sent the game to overtime.
Although the Broncos ultimately fell to the Bengals in overtime, Nix showed his ability to respond and lead crucial late-game scoring drives in a high-stakes battle with a talented team.
2. Playoff-clinching performance vs. Chiefs
In Week 18, the Broncos faced their third consecutive win-and-in game as they hosted the Chiefs at Empower Field at Mile High.
Nix embraced the moment and left no doubt as he led Denver to a 38-0 victory and the team's first playoff berth since 2015. He completed his first 18 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns, and the completion streak was both the longest in Broncos history to start a game and the longest streak in a single game by a Bronco. The 18 consecutive passes were also the most by a rookie to start a game in NFL history.
The dominant performance earned Nix his second AFC Offensive Player of the Week nod, and he also secured his spot as the 2024 rookie passing touchdown leader during the victory.
Nix finished the game 26-of-29 for 321 yards, four touchdowns and a 152.4 passer rating. Following the playoff-clinching victory, Nix took a full lap around Empower Field at Mile High high-fiving and thanking fans for their support.
1. Four-touchdown performance vs. Falcons and three NFL Rookie of the Week honors
In Week 10 on the road in Kansas City, Nix shined on one of the biggest stages in one of the most challenging environments. Nix completed 22-of-30 passes for 215 yards, two touchdowns and a 115.3 passer rating, and he guided a nearly six-minute drive at the end of the game to set up a game-winning field goal attempt. The performance earned Nix his first NFL Rookie of the Week honors.
Although the Broncos ultimately fell short in securing the victory in Week 10, Nix showed his resolve in Week 11 when he posted his best statistical performance up to that point in a dominating 38-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Nix completed 28-of-33 passes for 307 yards, four touchdowns and a 145.0 passer rating, which was the second-highest single-game mark in franchise history. With the performance, he became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for at least 300 yards and four touchdowns while completing at least 80 percent of his passes. Nix once again earned NFL Rookie of the Week honors, and he was also recognized as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week as well as a FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week.
Nix kept things rolling in Week 12, as he guided the Broncos to a 29-19 victory on the road in Las Vegas to complete the team's first season sweep of the Raiders since 2014. Nix completed 25-of-42 passes for 273 yards, two touchdowns and a 94.6 passer rating, and he led the team to a second-half comeback after trailing at halftime.
