ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A pair of Broncos players have returned to practice, while a new face has joined Denver's practice squad.

Denver has designated running back Audric Estime and cornerback Damarri Mathis for return from injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.

The Broncos also signed wide receiver A.T. Perry to their practice squad.

Both Estime and Mathis participated in the media-viewing portion of Wednesday's practice and started the 21-day window in which they must be activated to play in 2024.

Both players are eligible to be activated to the 53-man roster for Sunday's Week 6 game against the Chargers. If either player is not activated within the 21-day window, he will revert to injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Each team is able to designate eight total players for return over the course of the season. Mathis was officially designated for return ahead of the 53-man roster reduction, as he was placed on injured reserve in accordance with a new NFL rule. Even if a player is not activated, he will count toward a team's eight-player limit once he is designated for return.

Estime suffered an ankle injury in Week 1 against the Seahawks and was placed on IR. He recorded two carries for 14 yards in his lone action of the season. The fifth-round Notre Dame product ran for 1,341 yards and 18 touchdowns in his final collegiate season.

Mathis, meanwhile, suffered an ankle injury in the Broncos' preseason finale against the Cardinals. He appeared in 17 games last season and started six games for the Broncos, and he competed with Riley Moss for the team's starting cornerback spot during training camp. Mathis has recorded 100 tackles, eight passes defensed and three tackles for loss in his two-year career.

Perry was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Saints, and he caught 12 passes for 246 yards (20.5 yards per reception) and four touchdowns. The Broncos had an open spot on their practice squad and are not required to make a corresponding move.
