ENGLEWOOD, Colo. —** DeMarcus Walker's mother cried about the home, but not the car.
Her son prioritized her first after signing his rookie contract, and he surprised her with a new car and a new house.
"Just coming up from where I'm from, I've been through the struggle like every kind of athlete," Walker said Monday. "But getting my mom out of the hood and getting her a car, that was the best thing I've done in my life because that woman sacrificed for my life and brought me to this world.
"She took care of me for 22 years; time for me to take care of her now."
Walker's mother's drive through hardships throughout her life made a profound impact upon him. And now, with the means to repay her for all the sacrifices she made for him, he has begun.
