LAS VEGAS — When Courtland Sutton levitated into the air in the corner of Allegiant Stadium, he came down with more than just the football.
On an 18-yard pass from Bo Nix, Sutton hauled in the Broncos' first touchdown of the afternoon — and the go-ahead score in a grind-it-out divisional win.
After trailing at halftime, the Broncos used a critical takeaway from Brandon Jones and the highlight catch from Sutton to earn a come-from-behind win and improve to 7-5 on the season.
Following Sutton's catch, the Broncos added 13 fourth-quarter points — including another Sutton touchdown — and held the Raiders to a pair of second-half field goals to secure the win.
With the win, the Broncos earned their first victory at Allegiant Stadium and their first season sweep of the Raiders since 2014.
These were the players and plays that helped the Broncos earn a comeback win in Sin City.
GAME-CHANGING MOMENT
The Broncos trailed by four and were in danger of falling behind by more after a three-and-out to start the third quarter. But after the Broncos recorded their first sack of the game to set up a second-and-14, Denver again got pressure on Gardner Minshew.
The Raiders quarterback was hit as he looked deep for Jakobi Meyers, and Jones was able to pick off the overthrown pass. Jones weaved his way 37 yards to the Las Vegas 18-yard line before he was tackled, and Nix found Sutton for a jump-ball touchdown two plays later.
With Denver facing a second-half deficit, Jones' play gave the Broncos the first takeaway of the game and helped Denver take a lead it would not relinquish.
DEFINING STATISTIC
2-0.
When Head Coach Sean Payton discussed the keys to the Broncos' stretch run following Week 9, he pointed to the turnover margin as one of the most important metrics.
On Sunday in Las Vegas, the takeaway battle made all the difference. Denver, whose defense snagged a monumental third-quarter takeaway, improved to 7-1 this season in games in which the team forces a turnover. The unit added another in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter to ice the game.
Denver's offense, meanwhile, avoided mistakes even as it settled for field goals in the first half.
MEMORABLE HIGHLIGHT
With the Broncos leading by seven points late in the game and in need of a stop, the Denver defense came up big. After a sack by Jonathon Cooper and Cody Barton forced Minshew out of the game, Nik Bonitto ended the drive in style. The pass rusher posted his 10th sack of the season and knocked the ball free, too. Malcolm Roach recovered, which led to the Broncos retaking a double-digit lead.
BOX-SCORE STANDOUTS
Wil Lutz kept the Broncos within striking distance in the first half as he made kicks of 38, 53 and 54 yards before the break. He added two more field goals in the second half to go a perfect 5-of-5 on the afternoon.
Nik Bonitto reached double-digit sacks for the first time in his career with a late-game strip-sack of Desmond Ridder. Malcolm Roach, who recorded a sack of his own, gets a nod for recovering the fumble.
Pat Surtain II recorded a critical goal-line pass breakup and was critical in the Broncos' efforts to hold tight end Brock Bowers to four catches for 38 yards on 10 targets.
Bo Nix responded in the second half and finished the game 25-of-42 for 273 yards, two touchdowns and a 94.6 passer rating.
Courtland Sutton notched a pair of touchdowns and was just three yards away from his third 100-yard game of the season.
Brandon Jones posted a pair of pass breakups in addition to his interception.
Devaughn Vele posted a new career high in receiving yards with six catches for 80 yards.
