Painter Adds O-Line Depth, Versatility

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. –With four of the Broncos' offensive linemen recovering from injuries suffered in 2012, the team added a player with its sixth-round pick that can step in at multiple positions if needed.

Virginia Tech lineman Vinston Painter was recruited to the school as a left tackle, but also saw time on the right side in addition to working at guard.

"If put in immediately I'd say right tackle," he said when asked where he is most comfortable playing. "But I have played both sides so I'm pretty comfortable with each. This season coming up I'd say right tackle."

Painter even spent time on the opposite side of the trenches as a defensive lineman during his career with the Hokies.

"They recruited me as a left tackle and moved me to defensive tackle and then I was moved back (to offense) after that," Painter said. "They recruited me as left tackle though."

Even though he spent time moving around at different positions, Painter said that it helped his overall game.

After settling back in at tackle as a senior, Painter earned All-ACC honorable mention honors from the conference's coaches.

"I guess they wanted to test me out at several positions and see what was the best," he said. "Just using my athleticism and test me out at different positions and it worked out."
