ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- **After waiting for cornerback Bradley Roby to fall to them late in the first round, the Broncos traded up from No. 63 overall to No. 56 to take another physical specimen in Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer.

Some mock drafts had Latimer going late in Round 1, but with him still on the board late in Round 2, Denver made its move.

"It was a long wait, but it was well worth the wait," Latimer said during a conference call with Denver media Friday evening. "I never heard anything about the Broncos (being interested), so it was a little bit of a shock to me, but you know it was a great shock."

Latimer's size and speed combination -- he measured 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds at the combine and ran 4.4 in the 40-yard dash at his pro day -- is a trait he expects will translate effectively from his college days.

"There are some pretty good corners that came out, you know, first round, Big Ten," Latimer said. "I'm going to do the same thing, come in and dominate in the NFL."

One of those corners would be Roby, who faced off with Latimer in 2012 and then again in 2013. Latimer grabbed a total of 12 catches for 128 yards in those games, while Roby managed three passes defensed in each contest.

"He's going to help me a lot and then I'm going to help him a lot," Latimer said of Roby. "We're going to be battling every day and it's going to make us great."

Latimer's athleticism should also help him make an early impact in Denver on special teams, something he had plenty of experience with at Indiana.

"I just want to go make plays however I can," said Latimer, who had eight special teams tackles in 2013. "Wherever I am, special teams, however, as long as I'm on the field, helping this team win, I'm there."
