ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --It is unfair to call Adam Gotsis the next Malik Jackson. But clearly the Broncos were looking to fill a void left by the athletic defensive end when they selected Adam Gotsis with the final pick of the second round.

But it will take some time for Gotsis to assume his role in the defensive-line rotation. A torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last Oct. 31 will sideline him for rookie camp and OTAs; he is expected to make his practice debut during training camp.

When he takes the field, he is expected to settle in as part of the three-technique rotation among Derek Wolfe, Vance Walker, Jared Crick and Kenny Anunike.

With quickness and the ability to contort his body around offensive linemen, Gotsis should be able to use his 34 1/8-inch arms and a 6-foot-5 frame to develop as a pass rusher -- and as a player who can bat down passes at the line of scrimmage.

"With [Defensive Line Coach] Bill [Kollar] teaching him all the different techniques, we think he can continue to get better and better," Executive Vice President/General Manager John Elway said.

But he is still developing as a player, which owes to his background; he didn't take up American football on full-scale basis until he left Australia for Georgia Tech.

"He hasn't played a lot of football, but for the amount he has played he has been very good," Elway said.

He didn't even know on which side of the line of scrimmage he would line up before he joined the Yellow Jackets.

"They ended up putting me on the D-line because they needed some depth there," Gotsis said.

It proved to be a wise move for the three-year starter, who now will get a chance to learn under Kollar.

"When [Kollar] comes down over the course of the last six weeks banging on our doors, saying, 'You guys give me a chance to work with this guy,' John and I felt really good about that," Head Coach Gary Kubiak said. "Bill and the defensive staff, we just wanted to add him to our group. He had a great energy with him in Indianapolis."
