Reaching for the record
On third-and-9 from the 50-yard line, Trevor Siemian connected with Demaryius Thomas deep down the left sideline. The catch itself was impressive — Thomas went up over the defender to highpoint the ball and reel in a big reception. The play set Denver up for its first scoring play of the night, a 28-yard field goal from Brandon McManus. The larger picture meant more, though. The 40-yard reception put him over 8,000 receiving yards in his career. Thomas is just the seventh active player to reach that mark.
A necessary stop
With the Broncos in desperate need of a stop, Adam Gotsis made a monumental play to keep Denver within 17 points of the Giants. Gotsis got a hand on Aldrick Rosas' 49-yard field goal attempt, and the attempt was nowhere close. The Broncos then took over with decent field position.
Staying alive
With 4:13 to go in the game, Siemian found tight end Jeff Heuerman to give the Broncos a glimmer of hope. The Broncos moved 58 yards in seven plays and two minutes and three seconds to set up the touchdown. Denver's ensuing onside kick attempt failed, and the Giants took over up 20-10 with 4:06 to play. The Giants salted the game away when Orleans Darkwa rushed for 19 yards on third-and-9 to earn a first down. New York was then able to run out most of the clock and kick a field goal with 29 seconds remaining.
