Editor's note: Linebacker [Wesley Woodyard, who was voted as a team captain for the fifth-consecutive season this year, will contribute blog entries thoughout the 2013 season. See below for his second entry about Denver's season-opening win, his ankle injury and the Broncos' Week 2 opponent.
It felt really good to get a victory to start the season last week. That's what we go through training camp for, to start off the season at the right pace. Plus, it felt good to get that banner off our stadium.
I got back on the practice field today for the first time this week after I injured my ankle, as you might have seen, against the Ravens. Really, I just got my ankle twisted up.
I did talk to Danny after the game and I just told him to hold onto the damn football. I told him that, just joking with him – he was already down on himself. Everybody had already said what they said, but it was for me to come pick him up and make sure he was still out there making plays. I know I can depend on him to make big plays, so he just has to continue to do it every week. I just told him that he owes me two touchdowns now, so I'm looking forward to those.
I was excited about being back out there on the practice field today. Anytime you get an injury, especially like the injury I had – how it looked, it could have been a lot worse – so I was just thankful to God that I was able to get back out there as soon as I was.
We practiced in the steady rain that all of the Denver area has been dealing with. It was cold at the end, but it was fun. You don't get a lot of chances to practice in certain conditions, and rain is definitely a condition that you don't get many opportunities to practice in. So it was pretty much fun at first, then it got a little bit cold.
We leave for this week's game against the Giants tomorrow. They're a pretty good team. They've got a good rushing attack despite fumbling the ball last game. I think that's their strength, if you ask me. They can run the ball really well.
Obviously, everyone knows about their passing threat, going up against Eli – he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league. They offer a lot of different weapons that they can put out on the field in different situations, so it's going to be a good game for us.
Going up against Peyton prepares us a lot. It's exciting that every day we're out there on that field going up against Peyton. Our offense gives us different looks, whether it's two tight ends, one tight end, four receivers, five receivers, two running backs – it's just different looks. They always prepare us for what's ahead.
