ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --After signing a free agent on the offensive line, the Broncos did the same to their defensive line on day one of the NFL free agency period.
The team agreed to terms on the re-signing of defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson to two-year contract, bringing back the 8th-year pro who played in all 16 games for Denver in 2012. Vickerson is the third player to sign with Denver this offseason, joining guard Louis Vasquez and safety David Bruton.
Entering his fourth season with the Broncos in 2013, Vickerson has played 36 games with 30 starts from 2010-12, totaling 86 tackles, four sacks, one interception, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles in his time with Denver.
For his career, the former seventh-round pick out of Michigan State has played 60 games and made 161 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one interception, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
In 2012, he started a career-best 14 games and posted the third-highest tackle output of his career with 40 stops. His two sacks a year ago tied his career high and he appeared in all 16 games for the first time in his career. He also broke up one pass and forced one fumble, while helping anchor the middle of a Denver defense that ranked second overall and third in the NFL against the run.
Vickerson originally joined the Broncos on Sept. 7, 2010, after playing three years with the Tennessee Titans (2007-09) and two with the Miami Dolphins (2005-06). He also appeared in 10 games with NFL Europe's Cologne Centurions in 2007, where he earned All-NFL Europa honors.
With his re-signing, the Broncos now have four interior defensive linemen on the roster as he joins Mitch Unrein, Sealver Siliga and Ben Garland. The Broncos also have Derek Wolfe and Malik Jackson, who have lined up both inside and outside on the defensive line.
