ENGLEWOOD, Colo. –After topping the 100 yards from scrimmage mark with pair of touchdowns in Denver's Week 2 win against the New York Giants, running back Knowshon Moreno has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week.
Moreno finished the game with 13 carries for 93 yards to go with three catches for 14 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
"I thought Knowshon was really critical today," quarterback Peyton Manning said after the game. "Two great runs for touchdowns. You put all this work and time into your red-zone plays, but if you can get two 20-yard-plus touchdown runs, those are your two best red-zone plays all season. I thought he ran hard and that really opened up some things in that second half in the passing game."
Moreno's touchdowns came on runs of 20 and 25 yards to mark the eighth time a Bronco has run for multiple 20 yard scores in the same game.
"The guys stayed on their keys," Moreno said. "We were really going against a great front and a good team overall. The guys stayed together, made some adjustments and did a great job of front blocking."
His 7.2 yards per carry ranked second among all players with at least 10 rushing attempts in Week 2 and he was one of two players to reach the end zone twice on the ground last week.
Since Moreno took over as the Broncos' starter in Week 12 of the 2012 season, he ranks eighth among all players with 632 rushing yards.
After last week's outing, Moreno is 10th in franchise history with 2,551 career rushing yards.
Moreno joins running backs James Starks of the Green Bay Packers and Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks as finalists for the weekly accolade. Click here to vote.
"It was awesome," wide receiver Wes Welker said of Moreno's outing. "He ran hard. He brought a lot of energy to the team and made a lot of big plays for us. That's what we need. That's what we like to see."
