ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --It's well-documented that Peyton Manning's 2013 season is off to a historic start.

And there are still more records on the horizon. With 404 passing yards, he'll tie Dan Marino for the second-most all-time in NFL history, and with one passing touchdown, he'll tie Jay Cutler for fifth-most in Broncos history.

But Manning doesn't pay any attention to any of that.

"I really don't," he said Wednesday. "I really think that the schedule – the way it's set up playing some of these what I call 'unfamiliar opponents' – has helped."

"You're practicing against some 'what ifs,'" he continued. "So preparation weeks are long, they've been kind of grinders if you will. So it keeps you on your toes and it keeps you from thinking about what happened the week before."

He did acknowledge that he went through his annual tradition of writing down his goals for the upcoming season after training camp along with Quarterbacks Coach Greg Knapp. But he hasn't looked back at them quite yet.

"I'm on pace for a couple of them now," he laughed. "But I'm not into doing four-game summaries of the season. It is early in the season. We do break the season into quarters, it's been a good start. But we're heading into the teeth of our schedule with some of these new teams. We battle injuries every single week and that presents challenges. So this is the second quarter and it's really a new start."

Manning's offensive teammates agreed. Wide receiver Eric Decker said it's hard to reflect on just how good Manning has been when the team is in the midst of the regular season.

Still, he acknowledged that the quarterback has been "definitely close" to perfect to start the season.

"It's fun to be on his team," he smiled.
