Take a look at the Broncos' defense hunting for takeaways at Thursday's practice.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- One day after his ankle was stepped on during practice, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas watched in a sweatshirt and without a helmet as the Broncos continued their preparations for the Buffalo Bills.
Thomas was listed on Wednesday's injury report as having a limited practice. Thursday, he stretched out, and then watched as his fellow wide receivers went through their drills.
"It's a bruise, and he'll be fine," Head Coach John Fox said.
But the news was not as promising for wide receiver Cody Latimer, who left Thursday's practice with concussion-like symptoms. Fox said Latimer would go through the league-mandated protocol.
Fox added that he was "not really sure" when Latimer was hurt.
"He had those symptoms -- whether he did it yesterday or did it today, sometimes there's those collisions," Fox said. "We think he had a concussion at some point."
With Thomas and Latimer sidelined, the Broncos welcomed back Wes Welker, who returned to practice Thursday after being held out of Wednesday's session per a "team decision" that was not related to any injury.
Thomas was not the only target who watched in sweats. Tight end Jacob Tamme was consigned to the sideline for a second consecutive day with a rib injury.
Safety Quinton Carter and safety Lerentee McCray were also back in uniform after missing Wednesday's work. However, Carter was listed as not practicing, while McCray was limited Thursday after the illness that sidelined him Wednesday recurred.
Cornerback Aqib Talib and tight end Julius Thomas practiced for a second consecutive day. Neither played in Kansas City last Sunday with hamstring and ankle injuries, respectively. Talib had a full workload Thursday, while Thomas was again limited
Center Will Montgomery's workload increased from limited Wednesday to full Thursday, but defensive tackle Terrance Knighton was downgraded to limited Thursday because of an elbow problem.
Running backs Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman worked out with team strength and conditioning coaches for the second consecutive day. Neither has practiced since being injured in consecutive weeks last month.
Cornerback Kayvon Webster also remained out with a shoulder injury suffered in the second half of the Nov. 23 win over Miami.
