Injury Report: Drew Lock 'trending the right way' to start vs. Patriots, officially listed as questionable

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Quarterback Drew Lock is "trending the right way" to start on Sunday, Head Coach Vic Fangio said Friday.

Lock was a full participant again on Friday but was officially listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Patriots.

"They took away the probable category, so the only choices are questionable … or nothing," Fangio said. "So we're choosing questionable."

Fangio said Lock would need to not have any setbacks in order to start. He also added that he would have a "final conversation" with Lock about his status before Sunday's game.

Lock has not played since a Week 2 game in Pittsburgh, where he suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss two starts.

In addition to Lock, running back Melvin Gordon (illness), tight end Noah Fant (ankle) and nose tackle Mike Purcell (knee) will also be questionable. Fant and Purcell were both limited during all three practices this week, while Gordon missed Wednesday's practice for a non-injury related reason, practiced in full on Thursday and then did not practice Friday.

Fangio said he was uncertain of Gordon's status for Sunday's game.

"He's come down with an illness today that was totally unrelated to COVID [and] totally unrelated to his situation on Tuesday night," Fangio said. "The doctors are in complete control; … they've diagnosed it. It's nothing too serious. Until we get the report on that where he's at tomorrow in regards to that, that will have a major impact on our decision."

Fangio said there's a "possibility" that treating Gordon's illness will be "quick and effective." If the treatment does not work as hoped, Fangio said Gordon will not play.

If Gordon cannot play, the Broncos would bring Jeremy Cox up to the active roster.

Wide receiver KJ Hamler (hamstring) and outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu (quad) were both ruled out. Hamler suffered his injury against the Jets, while Attaochu has not played since Week 3.

Cornerback A.J. Bouye (shoulder) was not given a game status because he remains on injured reserve. Fangio said earlier in the week that Bouye was doubtful to play Sunday. Bouye has been on IR since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 1.
