Injury Report: De'Vante Bausby to 'definitely miss some time' after suffering cervical sprain

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Cornerback De'Vante Bausby will "definitely miss some time" after being carted off the field Sunday and being transported to a California hospital for evaluation, Head Coach Vic Fangio said Monday.

Bausby, who was released from the hospital Sunday evening and flew back to Denver with the team, was strapped to a backboard and carted off after linebacker Alexander Johnson inadvertently struck Bausby in the helmet while making a tackle.

The cornerback remained on the field for several minutes as medical personnel attended to him. The Broncos later announced that Bausby had movement in all extremities and that he was diagnosed with a cervical sprain.

"[Bausby] is doing good," Fangio said. "No timetable on his return yet. He'll definitely miss some time. [I] don't know if it will be the entire rest of the season or not. [With] these [injuries], the first few days and week will kind of tell the story."

Fangio said he doesn't believe Bausby's injury requires "drastic treatment." Instead, he will largely need rest.

With Bausby out, Fangio said the Broncos may look for outside cornerback help.

"I'm sure we'll look, but [there's] not a lot available right now," Fangio said.

The Broncos could also turn to cornerbacks Isaac Yiadom or Davontae Harris.

"I mean, it was obvious that they were going to go after whoever was in there at that time," Fangio said of Harris' performance. "So he got a lot of action for his first action. Hopefully if we decide to play him some more this week, he'll get more practice time on the field, whereas the last few weeks [Bausby] and [Yiadom] have been getting the bulk of the practice time in there. We'll amp his practice time up more."

Denver could also be without linebacker Justin Hollins in Week 6 against the Titans. The rookie exited Sunday's game against the Chargers with a knee injury, and Fangio said he is week to week.

"There's a chance [he could play] maybe even this week or he could miss a couple weeks," Fangio said. "The next few days will tell."

Tackle Ja'Wuan James (knee) and linebacker Josey Jewell (hamstring) will both practice more this week. The Broncos will then evaluate if the two players are ready to play on Sunday against Tennessee.

James has not played since Week 1, while Jewell exited the team's Week 4 game.
