ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Defensive lineman Adam Gotsis' season is over after he underwent knee surgery on Wednesday, Head Coach Vic Fangio announced on Thursday.
Fangio said the Broncos would place Gotsis on injured reserve but have "not yet" decided who would take his spot on the active roster.
"I don't know the exact medical extent [of the surgery], but it involved his ACL and his knee," Fangio said.
Gotsis, a fourth-year player, previously tore the ACL in the same knee while in college. He also underwent a small procedure on the knee ahead of the 2017 season.
The Georgia Tech product appeared in nine games for the Broncos this season and recorded 16 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Guard Ron Leary (concussion) and tackle Ja'Wuan James (knee) were also expected to miss Thursday's practice. Neither player has practiced in recent days.
Fangio said it was "possible" that James would return for the Broncos' Week 17 game against Oakland.
Defensive end DeMarcus Walker (ankle) and guard Dalton Risner (illness) were expected to practice on a limited basis after missing Wednesday's practice.
The Broncos sent defensive lineman Kyle Peko home ahead of practice. He is battling an illness.
