ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --The Broncos stayed on the offensive side of the ball in the third round, strengthening the depth on the offensive line.

With the 95th overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Broncos took Michigan offensive lineman Michael Schofield.

The 6-foot-6, 301-pounder played in 52 career games for the Wolverines, making 36 starts -- 26 of which came at right tackle, while the other 10 came at left guard.

"It gives us a lot of different options," Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway said. "With the offensive line there we're depending on what we do with Orlando (Franklin) and if he can stay (at left guard), but we're going to look at all of the different options. With his versatility he'll start at tackle and move inside and play some guard also. We're going to be playing with a bunch of different combinations and by the end I'm sure we'll come out with the best combination. Nothing is in concrete but Mike was just a guy that brings great competition and athletic and has done it."

The lineman said he's proud of that versatility, but noted at the NFL Scouting Combine that the two positions require different skillsets.

"Everything happens a lot faster at guard," Schofield said. "Obviously the guys are bigger. You're not going up against a quick D-end, you're going against a power defensive tackle."

The four-year letterman said he hopes to contribute to a proud tradition of Michigan offensive linemen.

"Obviously, if you look at the history of the Michigan offensive linemen going back — Steve Hutchinson, Jon Jansen, Jake Long — they have great offensive linemen and hopefully me and (Tennessee Titans lineman) Taylor (Lewan) could build on that," he said.
