Denver Broncos Draft LB Barrow in Fifth Round

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --With the fifth-round pick the Broncos acquired from Chicago, the team selected LSU linebacker Lamin Barrow.

"I like this kid, too," NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said. "In the world of 4-3 football, of an even front, he's what they call a Will linebacker, the weak outside linebacker. He can run, he's a little more stout than people thing. Day one, a four-team special-teams player. Like I said earlier, I think he's a little more stout than people want to give him credit for because he kind of has that safety build."

A two-year starter for the Tigers, Barrow earned second-team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press and coaches after his senior season, when he led the team in tackles.

In his LSU career, the 6-foot-1, 237-pounder played in 51 games with 28 starts. He finished with 230 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, adding seven pass breakups, seven quarterback hurries and four fumble recoveries.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Barrow said he brings "physicality, tougness and speed" to the next level, which are traits teams recognized during interviews.

"They've been telling me they love my physicality," he said. "They think my speed is going to be a great factor for me. I'm able to get out in space and move around, get to the ball a lot faster. Of course I have things to work on. They let me know it's not going to be easy, you don't just arrive in the NFL. You still have to work when you get there."

According to his bio, he was issued the No. 18 jersey in 2013 "as a tribute to him being the consummate LSU Tiger."

"I kind of classify him as just a run-and-hit linebacker," NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah added. "Just let him be able to see things clearly. When he has a clear sight-line, you can see him explode, run and finish with some big hits."

"That's what you get with Lamin Barrow."

We've picked Lamin Barrow from LSU in Rd 5. Versatile linebacker who can play Mike or Will positions. Good toughness & instincts. — John Elway (@johnelway) May 10, 2014
