Patrick Smyth enters his 13th year leading the Denver Broncos' public relations and is the club's Chief Communications Officer.
In his 19th season with the Broncos, Smyth leads and fully integrates the organization's award-winning public relations, community development and digital media departments to support football and business operations. He is the Broncos' spokesperson and works closely with the President & CEO, General Manager, Head Coach, players and executives to promote leadership alignment.
A University of Florida graduate, Smyth is a member of the Broncos' executive team and on the board of Broncos Charities.
Smyth is responsible for the public relations of the Broncos and Empower Field at Mile High, strategically directing all football, corporate and internal communications. His role involves growing the Broncos' digital platforms to increase fan engagement and revenue opportunities as well as expanding the club's philanthropic impact and fundraising initiatives.
The Broncos' public relations efforts have consistently been recognized by the Pro Football Writers of America under Smyth's leadership as a two-time winner—and eight-time finalist—for the prestigious Pete Rozelle Award. The franchise received the honor following its 2013 Super Bowl XLVIII appearance and 2015 Super Bowl 50 victory during the winningest four-year period (2012-15) in team history.
Guiding the Broncos' digital media strategy since 2019, Smyth has helped the franchise earn national recognition for content—including the first NFL team to win a Webby Award—across one of the largest platforms in sports. He has overseen the Broncos' community development since 2017 with the organization named 1-of-4 finalists throughout all sports for ESPN's Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year for three consecutive years (2020-22).
Joining the Broncos in 2004 as a media relations graduate assistant, Smyth became the youngest PR director in the NFL in 2010 at age 27.
Smyth was selected by the NFL to work three AFC Championship Games and began his NFL career interning with the Super Bowl XXXVII-champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002. His internship/part-time experience includes Florida's athletic department (2001-04) and the Philadelphia Flyers (2002).
Graduating from Florida in 2004 with highest honors and a bachelor's degree in public relations, Smyth received its "Outstanding Young Alumnus" award in 2011. He was recognized by the Denver Business Journal in 2012 as a "40 under 40" recipient for his business and community contributions.
Smyth is a Wilmington, Del., native and married to Leslie with sons Patrick and William.
