Declan Doyle enters his second season as tight ends coach for the Denver Broncos in 2024. He was hired by the club on Feb. 25, 2023.
Doyle joined the Broncos with seven years of cumulative coaching experience, including four seasons in the NFL with New Orleans. He previously served as an offensive assistant for the Saints from 2019-22.
In his first season in 2023, Doyle was part of a staff that helped the Broncos finish the year 8-9, their best record since 2016. Under Doyle's tutelage, tight end Adam Trautman set a new career high with three touchdown receptions while also recording 204 yards on 22 receptions while tight end Lucas Krull recorded his first career touchdown catch along and 95 yards on eight receptions (11.9 avg.).
During his four-year stint in New Orleans, the Saints amassed a 41-25 (.621) record, with playoff appearances in each of his first two seasons. He was part of an offensive staff that coached eight offensive players to a combined 12 Pro Bowls.
In Doyle's first two seasons as an offensive assistant, the Saints posted a Top-5 scoring offense. The offense averaged nearly 30 points per game from 2019-20 and posted the third and fifth-highest scoring totals in the NFL during that span.
The Saints, who captured their fourth straight NFC South Division title in 2020, ranked Top-10 in numerous offensive categories, including scoring offense (30.1 ppg—5th), red zone offense (72.1%—5th), fourth down percentage (68.8%—5th), rushing offense (141.6 ypg—6th), fewest turnovers (17—7th) and third down percentage (44.7—8th). New Orleans also totaled a league-leading 30 rushing touchdowns, which is a single-season franchise record.
In Doyle's first season on staff with New Orleans in 2019, the Saints ranked Top-10 in scoring offense (28.6 ppg—3rd), yards per play (5.92—6th), passing offense (265.3 ypg—7th), first downs per game (21.7—8th), total offense (373.9 ypg—9th) and third down percentage (42.2—10th). Additionally, New Orleans turned the ball over only eight times on offense that season, the lowest single-season mark by an NFL team since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970.
Prior to the Saints, Doyle served as an offensive student assistant for the University of Iowa from 2016-18. He was tasked with supporting the offensive staff during practice while breaking down defensive film of upcoming opponents.
Iowa posted a combined 25-14 (.641) record during his three seasons with the program and finished with a winning record in each of those three years. The Hawkeyes also made three consecutive bowl game appearances, notching a 2-1 record in the Outback (2016, '18) and Pinstripe (2017) Bowl.
Before transferring to the University of Iowa in 2016, Doyle attended Iowa Western Community College, where he was a captain for the baseball team in 2015.
Doyle earned his bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Iowa in 2018. He has a younger brother, Dillon, who played linebacker for five collegiate seasons at Iowa (2018-19) and Baylor (2020-22).
