A Look Back: Broncos 16, Raiders 10
The last time the Broncos played the Raiders in Oakland, the defense came up with another huge scoring play to secure a five-game win streak.
Turnovers were the name of the game for the Broncos in Oakland, and Denver wrangled two of three fumbles from the Raiders, along with one interception. With the win, the Broncos won their fifth game to start the season.
The Broncos denied Oakland's attempt to score first, with NT Sylvester Williams blocking a 38-ayrd field-goal try in the first quarter.
Denver's rushing defense was nothing short of dominant, holding Oakland to just 65 yards on the ground, with no player racking up more than 40 yards.
Brandon McManus gave the Broncos an early lead with a 25-yard field goal.
WR Bennie Fowler first flashed his potential in an NFL game on a first-half 41-yard catch-and-run.
The 18th year was the charm for defensive back Charles Woodson, who had not intercepted Peyton Manning in his career before this game. The pick ended a strong Broncos drive and sent the game into halftime with the Broncos trailing 7-3.
After a three-and-out to open the second half, Von Miller pounced on Derek Carr for a strip sack to flip the field in the Broncos' favor. However, Oakland's defense would hold strong and force the Broncos to kick a second field goal.
WR Emmanuel Sanders had a stellar day with 111 receiving yards on nine catches, including a 45-yarder.
A 52-yard field goal from McManus gave the Broncos a two-point lead that they would not surrender.
The Broncos took the lead on a third field goal midway through the third quarter, but they didn't get the separation they needed until the fourth quarter when CB Chris Harris Jr. intercepted Carr and returned the pick 74 yards for the score.
The Raiders drove into Broncos territory late in the game to try to narrow the deficit, but a 4-yard pass to Marcel Reece on fourth-and-19 all but ended those hopes. Ultimately, Oakland would get the ball for another possession, but an onside kick after a successful field goal was recovered by Demaryius Thomas and the game was over.
Though no one knew it at the time, the game would be Peyton Manning's last in the Black Hole — and not even Raiders fans could resist a chance to come in contact with him as he left the field.
