Teammates Feel for Anderson After Injury

**

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – **Rookie running back C.J. Anderson had a very productive camp. He read blocks and broke long runs in practice. He had a strong performance in the first preseason game at San Francisco. But his training camp came to an unfortunate close Thursday morning.

During a red-zone portion of the last training camp practice Thursday morning, Anderson was blocking for Brock Osweiler. Osweiler found Trindon Holliday in the corner of the end zone, but after the play there wasn't much celebrating.

Anderson was on the ground, visibly in pain.

"It's just awful," quarterback Peyton Manning said. "I haven't heard the extent, but it certainly did not look good. You could hear him out there grimacing, which is never a sound that any player likes to hear. So, my thoughts and prayers are with him. But, hopefully it's not as serious as it may have appeared."

Anderson was carted off the field and carried into the building. Riding off the field, he pounded the cart with his fist in frustration. He did not return to practice. Head Coach John Fox said after the session that it was an injury to his right knee.

"We'll get to see how bad the (injury) is as far as MRI and those types of tests," Fox said. "It's a kick in the gut any time you see a player go down. It's no different this time."

Anderson had been turning heads with his performance so far in camp and posted a game-high in rushing yards in San Francisco. He ran for 69 yards, more than the entire 49ers rushing attack, on 15 carries and broke 17-yard run in the third quarter.

After injuring his knee Thursday, his teammates voiced their support.

"It's tough," fellow running back Ronnie Hillman said. "You don't want anything like that to happen to any of your guys. I'm going to go in and check on him and see how he's doing. Hopefully he's ok and everything is negative.

"But it hurts the room, it hurts to see one of your guys go down."
