ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --Shaquil Barrett is back on the active roster.
The Broncos moved the outside linebacker off the non-football injury list Tuesday after he missed all of training camp because of a hip injury suffered in the offseason. He is expected to see some practice work Tuesday.
At one point the Broncos feared that Barrett could miss the entire season, but his recovery progressed ahead of schedule, to the point that President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway said last month that Barrett could return early in the regular season.
Barrett's return is welcome news for a position group that has been battered by injuries. Projected starter Shane Ray tore a ligament in his wrist on the second day of training camp, and rookie DeMarcus Walker suffered a hip-flexor injury last week.
Ray is expected to return at some point in September, while Walker is day-to-day and did not play last Saturday against the 49ers.
