ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos regained one starter on Wednesday, as nose tackle Mike Purcell returned to the field, but the team was still without starting tight end Noah End and several reserves for practice.

Purcell missed Tuesday's session with an ankle injury that Head Coach Vic Fangio said he'd tweaked during pregame warmups before the Broncos' preseason Week 2 game in Seattle.

Meanwhile, the team was without rookie safety Caden Sterns, who was kept out of practice with what Fangio called "a leg irritation that we're going to treat."

"We gave him off today," Fangio said. "He's going to get some treatment on it, and we don't think it's anything to worry about, but it's better to put the fire out now."

Sterns joins a list of Broncos rehabbing from injuries that includes Fant (leg), WR KJ Hamler (non-COVID-related illness), CB Michael Ojemudia (leg), S Trey Marshall (ankle) and RB Mike Boone (quad). Boone made his first appearance at practice since the injury to observe from the sideline and work out with trainers on a side field.
