ENGLEWOOD, Colo. —Broncos fullback/tight end Andrew Beck has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced Thursday.

The list was created for players who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have been quarantined following close contact with an infected individual. Due to NFL and NFLPA policy, the Broncos are not permitted to identify which of the two categories applies to Beck.

Beck is the first member of the Broncos' roster to be placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

According to the NFL and NFLPA's COVID-19 policy, there are different protocols to follow depending on whether an individual tests positive or has been in close contact with a symptomatic individual:

  • An individual who tests positive for COVID-19 and is symptomatic may not return to the facility until at least 10 days have passed since his or her first COVID symptoms. At least 72 hours must have also passed since the last symptoms occurred, and the team's physician must approve the individual's return following discussion with the Incident Command Center (ICS) and NFL's Chief Medical Officer.
  • An individual who tests positive and is asymptomatic may not return until 10 days have passed since the initial positive test or five days have passed since the initial positive test and the individual has had two consecutive negative tests separated by 24 hours. The individual's return must also be approved by the club's physician after discussion with the ICS and NFL Chief Medical Officer.
  • An individual who has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 must receive a test as soon as possible and isolate until receiving the results. The individual may return to the facility if the resulting test is negative and the individual remains asymptomatic. That individual must also take a second test within 24 hours of receiving the negative test result. He or she will also be subject to increased symptom monitoring and will undergo daily testing for each of the next eight days. The regular testing schedule will apply following those eight days.
  • An individual who has been in close contact with a symptomatic person must also receive a test as soon as possible and isolate until receiving the results. The individual may return to the facility if the resulting test is negative and the individual remains asymptomatic. They will also be subject to increased symptom monitoring, daily testing for the first eight days and the regular testing schedule after that time period.

Following a positive test, an individual may not travel, access the club facility or have direct contact with any employees or players other than the medical staff until cleared to return.

Players who have tested positive and then return to the facility must undergo one of two processes to return to the field. If the player had a mild, symptomatic infection, he must complete a progressive exercise protocol that lasts at least three days and is done under the supervision of the team's medical staff. If the player has a moderate to severe infection, he must complete the same protocol across either seven days or twice the length of the player's hospitalization.

While on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, Beck will not count against the 80-man active roster.
