ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --DeMarcus Ware, Evan Mathis and Peyton Manning were the only three Broncos who didn't practice as they continued their preparations for the Patriots on Thanksgiving morning inside the Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse.
Practice was moved up two hours to allow the players and coaches to leave early for holiday dinners with family and friends. It was moved indoors because of frigid 23-degree conditions and light snow.
Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips expressed hope Wednesday that Ware could return from the back injury that has sidelined him since midway through the Nov. 8 loss at Indianapolis.
"I think we've still got some ground to make up before he's back out there," Head Coach Gary Kubiak said Wednesday.
WR Emmanuel Sanders (ankle), DL Vance Walker (shoulder) and DE Antonio Smith (hip) all practiced for a second consecutive day.
Mathis' ankle was "really sore coming out of the game," Kubiak said. He spent Wednesday's practice working in the weight room and remained off the field Thursday morning.
"We've got some ground to make up with him," Kubiak said Wednesday. "We'll see, though."
