ENGLEWOOD, Colo. —** Denver Broncos inside linebacker Brandon Marshall on Friday was presented with the ninth annual Darrent Williams Good Guy Award, as selected by the team's local media.

"To me, it means a lot. I was raised on integrity," Marshall said. "For all of my peers to see me as this person and say, 'OK, he's a really great person' — my mom did a [heck] of a job in raising me. I know she'll be proud of this because she'll know that she raised her boy in a way that people look up to him and a way that people respect him. It means a lot to me in that regard because I know that I've done a good job in trying to become the best man that I can be. I'm not perfect—nobody is—but [I'm] still striving to be a great person each day."

The award was created in memory of former Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams, who passed away on Jan. 1, 2007, after completing his second season with the team. The award is given annually to the Bronco who best exemplifies Williams' enthusiasm, cooperation and honesty while dealing with members of the press.

"Brandon was named for his candor, his reliability as well as the way he conducted himself in the daily interactions between those who cover the team and the coaches, players and team officials with the team," said Jeff Legwold, president of the Pro Football Writers of America and Broncos beat writer for ESPN.com. "Marshall was consistently lauded for the respect he showed to both those in the media as well as to the process of day-to-day coverage of the Broncos. He is a more than worthy winner of the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award."

Other Broncos receiving significant consideration for this year's award were safety David Bruton Jr., cornerback Chris Harris Jr. and tackle Ryan Harris.

Previous winners of the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award were Terrance Knighton (2014), Chris Harris Jr. (2013), Wesley Woodyard (2012), Champ Bailey (2011), Mario Haggan (2010), Elvis Dumervil (2009), Ebenezer Ekuban (2008) and John Lynch (2007).
