Ball's Rookie Journal: Still Learning

Editor's note: Rookie running back Montee Ball is contributing blog entries on DenverBroncos.com thoughout the 2013 season.

For the most part, last week's game was good. I'm a lot more comfortable back there. A lot more comfortable. The game has slowed down a lot. I'm finally just running.

But once again the coaches trusted me and put me in there and I kind of shot myself in the foot again. But today we worked on it, me and my coach. It's ball security. We corrected the problem. I carried the ball all around the facility today.

Nobody feels worse about the fumble than me, so when it happened and after the game, they didn't say much at all. They just told me to keep my head up. I'm still learning. It's best to happen now than later on in the season. Get it out of my system.

As far as the Monday Night Football atmosphere -- man, that was crazy. Obviously by playing in the game and on the sideline, you don't really get a feel for how many people are watching it outside the stadium until you go back to your phone and you see all the text messages, like, man, all these people were watching the game. It was a Monday night game, so everybody was watching. But it was great. I'm glad I got my first Monday night out of the way. So now I've played on Thursday, I've played on Monday, I've played on Sunday. Now it's time to go.

And we're on to the Eagles -- we didn't even go back to last week's tape. It kind of shocked me at first because I'm so used to the routine that we have -- come back and watch the film from the last game. But it's a short week. So for us players, that's when you've got to be mature and watch the film on your own and correct your mistakes. Right now, it's all Philly.

We know what kind of offense they have, and we hear people talking about a track meet. But our goal every single week is to score as many times as we get the ball. Every time we get the ball. They present some challenges, but if we just stick to our roles and our assignments, we'll be fine.

When it comes to the Eagles defense, you see on tape right away that they're fast. It's a fast defense and they present some things that can cause confusion. But we're doing a great job right now of working on it and making sure we take care of it. Other than that, we've just got to worry about what we do and I think we'll be fine.
