ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --After tending to a personal matter during organized team activities, defensive end Antonio Smith will return to Broncos headquarters and be a full participant in training camp.
Smith did not participate in summer team workouts after reports surfaced of an investigation involving him less than a week before the May 27 start of OTAs.
At the time, Head Coach Gary Kubiak met with Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager John Elway and President & CEO Joe Ellis. Kubiak then conferred with Smith before all sides agreed on Smith stepping away from team activities while an investigation was pending.
After two months, Kubiak and the Broncos felt it was suitable for Smith to resume all team activities.
"We've been in communication with Antonio and the league for the last couple of months," Kubiak said. "Based on those discussions, it's appropriate for Antonio to be here and compete with the rest of the team as we begin training camp."
Smith was signed April 6 to bolster the Broncos' pass rush. During the years he played under both Kubiak and Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips in Houston, he emerged as one of the league's best 3-4 pass-rushing defensive ends, logging 18.5 sacks from 2011-13.
