Boosted by the return of Champ Bailey and a career day from Terrance Knighton, the Broncos stifled New England's explosive offense for three quarters, allowing the Broncos to build a 20-point lead that was too much for the late-charging Patriots to overcome in the final 10 minutes. Peyton Manning diced up the New England defense, completing 32 of 43 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns, and running backs Montee Ball and Knowshon Moreno combined for 102 yards on 26 carries, allowing the Broncos to keep the Patriots off-balance. The Patriots were able to move the football in the second half, but were unable to overcome Knighton's fourth-down sack of Tom Brady, which stopped a 13-play drive.
• LAST TIME IN FOXBOROUGH: Patriots 34, Broncos 31 (OT); Nov. 24, 2013. In a game of spurts and momentum shifts, the pendulum swung New England's way last when a punt bounced off Tony Carter and into the hands of Nate Ebner with 3:01 left in overtime, setting up Stephen Gostkowski's game-winning 31-yard field goal. The Broncos scored the game's first 24 points, capitalizing off three Patriots fumbles to take a three-score lead before the end of the first quarter. But New England scored 31 consecutive points after halftime, 14 of which were set up by Denver giveaways. Fighting against a stiff wind, Peyton Manning led a 79-yard drive that culminated in an 11-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas to force overtime. The defense stiffened in overtime, forcing a pair of punts and setting the offense up for a potential game-winning drive -- or at least a possession that ensured a tie -- before the special-teams breakdown.

NOTING THE GAME:

• New England had a four-game winning streak against the Broncos snapped in the AFC Championship Game. That was the Patriots' longest winning streak in the series, which began with the clubs' first game in 1960. The Broncos' longest winning streak in the series is 11, coming from 1984-98.
• Other than AFC West foes, no opponent is more regularly on the Broncos' schedule than New England. Including playoffs, this will be the 20th game between the clubs since 1995. The only years they've missed since 1995 were 2004, 2007 and 2010. 
• This will be the third consecutive regular season in which the teams have met at Gillette Stadium. If they finish in the same place in their respective divisions this season, they would meet in Denver in 2015.
• Manning is 6-4 against the Patriots since the 2005 season, including the postseason. He began his career losing 10 of his first 12 to them.
• Brady has a losing record against just one team: the Broncos. He is 4-5 as a starter against them (5-7 including the playoffs).
• Just two of the last nine games (including postseason) between the teams has been decided by less than 10 points, and both went to overtime: a 20-17 Broncos win on Oct. 11, 2009, and last year's loss in Foxborough.
• The Broncos are 7-7 against Belichick since he became the Patriots' head coach in 2000, a record that includes a pair of playoff wins. Denver is 11-7 overall against Belichick, including a 4-0 mark against his Browns teams from 1991-95.
• Last year marked the first time in Broncos history that they won a playoff game in a season where they lost to the Patriots in Foxborough.
