Youth Health and Wellness Grant Spotlights

Food Bank of the Rockies

Food Bank of the Rockies

One in nine Colorado youth face food insecurity, negatively impacting their physical and mental health, social skills and performance in schools. The Denver Broncos Foundation and CommonSpirit Health are teaming up to tackle food insecurity through support for Food Bank of the Rockies's Totes of Hope™ programs at the Denver Green School Southeast and South Park Food Bank. The Totes of Hope™ program assists youth with nutritious, kid-friendly food to sustain them over the weekend when school is not in session and other food programs may be unavailable.

Additionally, the Denver Broncos Foundation and CommonSpirit Health are featured on a newly co-branded truck to ensure individuals have the food they need to thrive. This powerful partnership is driving impact across 32 Colorado counties and all 23 Wyoming counties to collectively impact the issue of food insecurity in our communities.

Second Wind Fund

Second Wind Fund

Suicide is the leading cause of death for youth in Colorado, with nearly 1 in 5 Colorado high school students reporting that they seriously considered suicide within one school year. The Denver Broncos Foundation is partnering with Second Wind Fund to expand access to mental health services through a multi-year, multifaceted approach.

Funding is supporting geographic expansion to provide in-person therapy services in all Colorado counties with an intentional focus on expansion in rural and tribal communities to reach an additional 600 youth and provide 2,500 additional therapy sessions in the next four years.

Girls Flag Football

Girls Flag Football

The Women's Sports Foundation notes that by age 14, many girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys and girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play high school sports than boys have. Following a three-year pilot program supported by the Broncos, Denver Broncos Foundation and the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), CHSAA voted in April 2024 to officially sanction girls flag football as a high school sport at the state level.

Through the pilot program, the Denver Broncos Foundation and CHSAA more than doubled the number of girls participating in high school flag football in Colorado. Through grants for uniforms and equipment, team-hosted coaching clinics, jamborees, tournaments and more, the Denver Broncos Foundation is supporting schools statewide as they add and expand girls flag football programming in their communities.
